It All Begins with a Gift

First, from my heart to yours, Merry Christmas. What a wonderful time of year. 2016 has been a tremendous year of God's grace for us here in the north woods of Michigan, and we are enjoying the Christmas season. It's almost ingrained in all of us. We love Christmas. The pageantry, the family gatherings, the Christmas carols, the extra time off from school, even the snow is loved this time of year. When asked: "What is it that you love about Christmas?" It's almost hard to know where to begin describing all the ways that we love Christmas...almost hard, because we can all begin understanding our love for Christmas with a Gift.

Kids love Christmas gifts, in fact, for most of them, it's their favorite part. And as we get older we enjoy the gifts as well but perhaps, from a different perspective. The older we get, the more we enjoy giving gifts to those we love. It is then we begin to realize that important life lesson: "It is better to give, than to receive." Which helps us, in a very small way, begin to understand the utter joy God had in that very first Christmas, when He came to this earth as a gift to humanity.

Understated and subtle, the Bible gives very little pageantry to that first Christmas gift. There is nothing decorated in the stable and certainly no fancy dinner. In fact, the "wrapping paper" of that first Christmas was the tightly woven, unsightly swaddling clothes of the greatest Gift ever given. Yet, that Gift offers to all of us the hope of change both in the trajectory of our lives now, but also the trajectory of our lives in the future.

That Gift was Jesus. God in flesh. Living with humanity. Bringing God's grace and truth to everyone that would believe that He was the long promised Savior. The beauty of Christmas is far more beautiful than a Christmas tree, a family dinner, or a well sung Christmas carol. The beauty of Christmas is a simple gift, calling to you to simply ask yourself-"Do I really want this life changing, life altering gift that God is offering?"

This Christmas, we at North Country hope and pray that you have experienced the greatest Gift ever given. If you have any questions about this Gift of Jesus, and what He did for you. Please, feel free to contact us, we would love to chat with you about it. It is a free Gift, one that will completely change your life.
